Chris Crawford, the boomer game designer known for founding GDC (in part), writing a geopolitical simulation game that berated you for expecting an image of a nuclear explosion when you lost, and then for declaring the whole of games "creatively dead", recently concluded that "The World Just Isn’t Ready for Interactive Storytelling" (https://www.erasmatazz.com/library/fourth-generation-interacti/the-world-just-isnt-ready.html) because his JavaScript magnum opus, Le Morte D'Arthur (https://www.erasmatazz.com/LeMorteDArthur.html), has not generated any significant discussion in the three years since its release despite being a work that "concerns serious matters like the meaning of life, its purpose, and its relationship to death" for "Adults who would like to experience serious interactive art addressing serious issues of life".
Crawford's a valuable living warning of the dangers of narcissistic self-isolation. If you have a moment, I recommend gazing upon his work and despairing.
