@sun oh right there's a new contrapoints out
@lain @sun i'm watching the conspiracy theory one and just the beginning is like "wow i love conspiracy theories but i would never ever ever believe in one haha that would be crazy" can normies for once, ever be a real human being and have conviction in anything they do
now i'm wondering if all the conspiracy communities have been completely flooded with normies that only superficially like the idea like normie-controlled shit like anime or cars have been lmao

@shibao @lain a lot of the discourse on conspiracies assumes a static environment where there are not institutions actively polluting the flow of information to provide cover. sure the government would destroy or refuse to release records but they would never ever actively and intentionally put out false information.
never mind it's been straight up proven that they did this to the UFO community for decades for "unknown reasons"

@sun @shibao @lain whoops we accidentally poisoned our data harvesting with our own propaganda. Whoopsie daisy.

There are versions of this which were blatantly obvious at the beginning of the Russia/Ukraine war.
The propagandists were shouting "UKRAINE IS WINNING, ONLY A FEW MORE WEEKS", and the (generally pretty well respected) western geopolitical analysts were more-or-less repeating it.
To the extent that I imagine some fairly large boomer retirement plans did at least a few investment transactions under the assumption that Russia was not going to last more than a year.
The beast has no eyes and no ears...
